It’s common knowledge that tap water is not completely safe to drink and filtered water is much better for us as it rids our tap water of all those nasty chemicals and contaminants that we don’t need. Sure our tap water is purified to some extent but usually not enough to remove bacteria, metals and traces of pesticides and herbicides, which are often found in ordinary household tap water.

Due to this, lots of people will start installing house water filters to filter all the water that comes out of any tap in the house to ensure the water that you and your family drinks is healthy and clean.

The most popular water filters are carbon water filters also called charcoal filters, made from coconut husk. These filters remove most of the dangerous water impurities, but allows minerals that are beneficial to our health to pass. These filters are not expensive and a single cartridge should last between six and nine months.

There are some downsides to carbon water purifiers though. If you know the water in your area is acidic you may need to use a different filter as these ones can’t change the pH level of your water. Also if the filter is unused for several days it may start to get a bit mouldy especially in the warmer months.

Reverse Osmosis water filters work well as whole house filters, this is because they can remove almost all contaminants from tap water. They remove pretty much every mineral, leaving just pure distilled water which might not be the best thing for us as we need some of those minerals!

There are more water purification methods including magnetic systems, energetic water treatments, far infra red systems and water ionizers. They all are effective to a certain degree, but some of them are still experimental and are not yet used for house water purification.

The first step to having clean, purified water in your home is getting some sort of water cooler filter installed. More often that not, it’s more practical to own an undersink water filter rather than have one cluttering your counter top.

The trick is to choose the right type of under sink water filter which can be tricky with so many on the market at the moment. However, WaterCoolerFilters.co.uk has put together some tips to choosing a good one to suit your needs.

Under water sink filters need to be easy to install and should fit neatly inside your cupboard out of view so it doesn’t ruin the look of your kitchen and cause clutter. Usually the company where you purchase the filter from will come out and install it for you.

You should ensure the company you buy it from offers a money back guarantee and a warranty so that if the product does not meet your expectations you can return it and get your money back. It’s peice of mind for you.

You want a system that filters out the most contaminates and the greatest amount possible so don’t be afraid to ask the company whether their under sink water filter can do this and what the level of filtration is on the model you are looking at.

The ongoing cost per gallon of running under sink water filters is an important consideration so be sure to ask the company about this as well. You should find out how often you need to change the filter cartridge and is it an easy procedure to do yourself or will someone from their company come out and do it for us? You should also research the company who is selling the filter and see if there are any customer testimonials available for you to look at. You want a trustworthy company who is dedicated to helping you make the right choice.

There are a few different types of water filters available on the market at the moment, but almost all drinking water filters employ carbon as the primary fitration medium. Carbon filters are used to remove a wide variety of chemical pollutants and are especially effective on organic chemicals, such as pesticides, herbicides and industrial chemicals. They’re also effective in removing radon, chlorine as well as bad odours and tastes in the water supply.

Good quality carbon filters can remove 80 to 99 percent of the organic chemicals, radon, chlorine and bad tastes and odours in water. However, they don’t remove microorganisms or toxic minerals. Only a high quality reverse osmosis system can remove 99.99% of drinking water pollutants.

Carbon filters have a rather short lifetime, manufacturers of full-size carbon filters claim their filters are effective for 2,000 gallons of water or more, but it is recommended that many carbon filters be changed every six months depending on the brand.

Changing your water filter will ensure optimum performance and will minimise the chances of pollutant breakaway. Small carbon filters that attach to a faucet may even have to be replaced every few months. You should check with your supplier about the replacement time periods. If you are on a service contract with your water filter provider they will most probably come out and change the filter for you when it needs to be changed.

Everyone knows water has wonderful benefits for our health, we need it to live and our bodies are made are largely made up of water. It’s safe to say without it we would not survive, but some water is not suitable for consumption and that’s where water filters come in.

Water filters make our dirnking water even more healthy and safe for us to drink and use for cooking, bathing and washing. World-wide water filtration systems are in use to ensure that clean water is available for human consumption.

Drinking water comes from a variety of different sources including rivers, lakes, ponds, springs, rain and snow and natural water can be hard or soft and contain many pollutants from the environment. Mostly the water gets contaminated by bacteria, viruses, organic and inorganic substances.

There are also a lot of contaminants left in the water by the time we get to drink it, these include rust and sediments, bacteria, parasites, lead, and other chemical poisons, all of which no one wants floating around in their drinking water that’s for sure. So to ensure our water is clean for domestic or industrial use, water filters are routinely used for the following reasons:

1. Water filters remove dust particles from water.

2. Filtration removes contaminants like fungi, cryptosporidium and protozoa gardia from the water.

3. Filters remove harmful substances like lead from drinking water.

4. Bacterial and viral contaminations are also removed.

5. The filtration process effectively removes excess chlorine, its by-products.

Among all water purification systems filtration is the least expensive and does not require huge amounts of electricity, it’s also efficient and does not waste water in its operation.

There are many items in our households that require water besides the humans, our showers, our washing machines and the likes. As they all use water, there are water filters available for them to ensure the water is pure and clean when it’s being used. Here is a list of the top seven types of water filters you can purchase for your home:

1. Water Jug
If you only want to be drinking clean water rather than using it in your everyday life then the water jug filter is the way to go. A water jug filter is inside a specially made pitcher with a filter at the top and you have to pour water in slowly as it will start to filter the water through to the bottom of the container, it can be time consuming though.

2. Faucet
The Faucet filter is an attachment which hooks up to the faucet spout and you have the choice to turn the filter on to dispense cleaner water or turn it off if you do not want to waste the cleaner. There isn’t much water pressure with these and they can look a little out of place in designer kitchens as they are exposed.

3. Refrigerator
The Refrigerator filter is becoming more popular as people purchase refrigerators with water and ice dispensers on the door. This hooks up inside the door and assists in producing better tasting ice and water.

4. Under Sink
Under sink filters are great and it keeps clutter from being on top of the counter or faucet. They require a professional installation and you will have to give up some room under your sink cabinet to make space for this larger item.

5. Shower
The Shower filter does just that, filters the shower water so it’s free of contaminants. Usually if people want good water for their bathrooms they will have a whole house water filter installed over a shower filter.

6. Laundry
The Laundry Filter is used by people who like to use water free from hard water deposits on their clothes, but usually people will install a whole house filter over just a laundry filter.

7. Whole house
The whole house water filter is the new must have appliance that people are having installed in their homes when building a brand new home. It makes sense to do this when you’re having all the other appliances installed, so why not get your whole house sorted for purified water at the same time.

When looking at water cooler filters you need to know what’s available and which one will work best for you and the environment in which it’s placed. WaterCoolerFilters.co.uk is an industry leader in water cooler filters and would be pleased to provide you with some initital information on the types of water filters available on the market right now.

Firstly there’s the activated carbon water filters that fit onto the faucet. This type of filter is good because it’s simple and quite inexpenisve. However although it will reduce the chlorine in the water and will improve the taste it won’t remove all of the other contaminants that might be present.

Next there’s the counter top or under sink filters which use active carbon technology together with other forms of filtration, the most common of which is a membrane with tiny holes in it which allows only the smaller substances to go through the filter. These types of filters reduce most harmful substances that may be found in tap water but can be more expensive than other types of filters because of this.

Then last but not least, there’s the reverse osmosis systems, which seem to remove almost all the contaminants of the water, including the ones our bodies may actually need. The other downside of these filters is that they can be very expensive and usually waste a lot of water while in operation.

WaterCoolerFilters.co.uk is a joint venture between The Water Cooler Company and The Water Delivery Company.

WaterCoolerFilters.co.uk knows how to bring you clean, purified water through the use of their state of the art, affordable water cooler filters, but we also know how to help you save water, which is an important peice of knowledge to have in this day and age where water conservation is so precious.

Did you know that less than 1% of the earth’s water supply can be used for drinking and two thirds of the water used in a home is used in the bathroom? This means we should look at how we use water in the bathroom especially and try to reduce it as best we can. For example, a small drip from a tap can waste as much as four litres of water a day, so check all your faucets and ensure they are firmly turned off.

Leaving the tap running while you clean your teeth can waste nine litres of water so ensure you turn the tap off when you brush your teeth and encourage your children to do the same. It’s also better to have a shower over a bath as a five minute shower uses about a third of the water of a bath, saving up to 400 litres per week. You can also look into getting a water saving device in your toilet cistern as it can save up to three litres per flush.

In other areas of the house such as the laundry and the kitchen you can also help save water by waiting until you have a full load for your washing machine and waiting until you have a full load for your dishwasher, doing these two actions together can save up to 100 litres of water.

If you would like to speak to someone from WaterCoolerFilters.co.uk about water filters or if you have any water saving tips not mentioned here, please email them to us on contact@watercoolerfilters.co.uk or call us on 0845 500 4455.

If you are stuck on holiday ideas, some of our team are heading to the French Alps for some Christmas skiing, there’s sure to be loads of snow, what better way to drink, eat and be merry. There’s also the enticing option of staying home this Christmas and spending it with family and friends back here in good old London town.

London becomes a different city during the Christmas break, it turns into a quiet, peaceful place which is perfect for spending Christmas in. If you do decide to go away for the holidays though, be sure your house is going to be looked after and check your water cooler filter to see if it needs replacing before you leave, as you probably don’t want to come home to foul tasting water.

If you would like more information on changing water cooler filters please call us on 0845 500 4455 or email contact@watercoolerfilters.co.uk

Watercoolerfilters.co.uk is pleased to announce they will be stocking Omnipure Water Filters for their customer’s water coolers. Omnipure was the world’s first company to manufacture small, disposable inline water filters. Their company philosophy is to create filters that eliminate or reduce contaminants that cause unwanted taste, odour and discoloration in drinking water. They were out to make better tasting water.

In the beginning, Omnipure filters were used primarily on water coolers and ice makers, however as the market has developed and changed their products found their way into many more applications including commercial beverage equipment, under-the-sink and on-the-counter residential units and drinking fountains. Omnipure products are now widely used as components in commercial and residential purification systems.
