Water filters have been installed in contaminated wells in a few Lafayette neighbourhoods in North Carolina, USA. We wonder if this measure is not taken too late. The state officials have been testing the water there for years, but they have announced that there is a contaminant in the water that is well above the allowed limits. It turns out the officials knew about the pollution long time ago, but they did not have the money to conclude thorough examinations of the whole region. But now they have warned a few households not to drink from their wells, because what is in there may pose a death threat – cancer. Tetracholoethylene, or most commonly known as PCE is a dry cleaning solvent that if consumed for longer periods of time can cause serious health risks. It is odourless and it has no colour, so you cannot see or smell it. The research shows that laboratory mice develop cancer because of it. One of the people whose well has been marked unclean is stunned. His father has been drinking from this same well up until he died of a rare form of cancer. People are now wondering if this has anything to do with the contaminated well.
If you want to make sure you and your family drinks good, clean water, install water filters today – you can never be too cautious, especially when you fight against hidden dangers such as the odourless PCE for instance.
